Draft Horse Team Plowing Kentucky Vegetable Garden
February 22nd, 2007 | by drafthorse |KYGuyz asked:
Liz and Kate plow the organic vegetable garden with the Jerrys in tow. At the end of the row, we plowed up a brick! If you watch close you can see the plow “pop” and the horses start a bit. This was our first year working horses on our Kentucky sustainable farm.

I sure agree with you! This is really too fast for me too! This was this teams first time on a plow. They have since slowed down, but still are better suited to the mowing machine than the plow.
I have never worked oxen but have always wanted to. Maybe someday I will have time to train a pair of steers for farm work. Thanks for looking at our videos and commenting!

that’s called renewable energy in farming. too fast for my taste, though. i don’t like running and tripping while plowing. oxen work at a walking pace.

yes, we have heard of no till, but it wouldnt allow us to work the horses, nor is it sustainable. We do not use any of the sprays that most no till operations use. We find that a good crop rotation works better for us.

Heard of ‘no till’ gardening?

It was a brick alright. We used it to fill in a pot hole on the lane to the garden. The plow share didn’t seem to mind too bad.
