English Pleasure - Georgia Draft Horse Association Spring Show, (near Athens, GA) May 17, 2008.. WHAT a slowpoke - Duke had to spook and stop and gawk at the grandstands and weird out at the people with dogs or bicycles. Like pushing dirt uphill to get him forward. We had a good time. We went to a horse show!! First show for both of us. Special Thanks to the Ga. Draft Horse Association volunteers for putting on the show for us! Duke did place third in halter, geldings 4 and over.

Hunter seat and dressage seat also very popular but a more relaxed style of riding. Best to evaluate your draft horse’s abilities with his confirmation and see what discipline best enhances your draft horse’s natural movements.

I have been told by a seasoned exhibitor-f you have a hitch judge, he or she looks for the horse that most moves out like a hitch horse with scotch bottom shoes and then someone put a saddleseat rider on it-a very nice presentation btw. If you have a light horse judge, he or she bases it on how a light horse would be judged in an English pleasure class. Saddleseat is very popular with hitch horses that wear the big shoes and really move out (like Saddlebreds do with the high head and big trot).
