Ga. National Fair October 2006 - Getting a lesson from the driver of the Heinz Hitch on how to start the braid of the docked tail of a Percheron draft horse for the show ring. If you can get this part right, the rest is easy.

    The tail on a hitch style horse is traditionally banded around 2 days after birth and the lower vertebrae drop off. The short tail hair needs to be kept out of the traces - you don’t want their tails ripped out catching in the hardware and harnesses.
