Emily J asked:

Hey there, so I am currently leasing a 16.2hh Paint horse/ belgian cross. She is 8 years old, and so she is trained in dressage, I’m trained in H/J, I test rode her yesterday,a nd she was great. So me and the owner were talking, and she would like to see Cabaret jump. We need to have the vet check her over because she had a leg surgery as a yearling, and we wouldn’t jump her all that high, so how high do you think she could go?
No, I don’t want to compete her in hunters, we just want ot teach her to jump.

H asked:

I`m a decent rider, self taught since I was a kid. I lead trail rides on a friend`s farm in the summer. I`m not very tall, so ponies are ok, but I`m comfortable on a draft horse as well. I live in the west end, and don`t want to pay more than $150 a month since I would only be riding twice a week or so. Thanks!

teenytiny asked:

on cement or pavement is bad for them? It seems it should not be bad if it’s not all the time, but I see people warming others against it in general, but haven’t horses always been breed to have good legs and sound feet for road work before cars were even invented? I’ve seen old draft horses still worked in cities well into old age. Of course galloping a horse for miles on pavement might be bad, but what about trotting or other slower gates?

Katie Kei asked:

I have a 9 y/o Percheron gelding and for the past few months he’s been at my neighbor’s house, because he has shelter there, but I think he’s afraid of the shelter. Every time I go over there and it’s raining/snowing, I try to take him under there with me, and he gets really jumpy and nervous. His previous owner abandoned him at a boarding facility and didn’t pay to have him fed/cared for, so the facility didn’t. Could that have to do with his fear of the shelter? It’s probably 12′wide x 12′deep x 7′tall. He’s around 17-18hh and still a little skinny looking. I want to be able to build him a barn/very large shelter by summer and I’m not sure where to start. I need help, because I don’t know how big is big enough and whether I should cement the floor then put mats and shavings, because my ferrier needs a place to trim that’s covered and level during the summer. Ahh I have so many questions and not enough room! Any experienced draft owners suggestions would be great! Thank you!!
He’s pretty good with the ferrier, gets a little impatitent, but she’s super patitent with him! I don’t think he’s too worried about shelter, it might just be me being worried, but I still want him to have the choice! My ferrier doesn’t need the level surface, but I would like her visit to be more accommodating. It’s kind of a courtesy thing for someone who does a job that’s not always easy…

mathaowny asked:

Okay, so I MIGHT be adopting a draft horse soon who has CPL. This disease will not determine if I adopt him or not–if they let me he will be mine. Even if I cannot eventually ride him, I can give this rescue boy a good life. He deserves a good home.

Does anyone here know personally about CPL? I’ve been researching it and it seems that in dry, sunny Arizona it might recede.

I just need to know if you have personal experiences, or know something about it that I might not, or cannot find on the net.

Thank you!!!
Thanks for the site! No, I agree that horses in severe pain need to be put down. It is inhumane to keep a terminal horse alive just for the owner’s benefit. This gelding is in great shape…he just has a general distrust for humans. The CPL is not advanced at all, and he doesn’t see to notice that he has it.
