Does anyone here know about CPL in draft horses?

Okay, so I MIGHT be adopting a draft horse soon who has CPL. This disease will not determine if I adopt him or not–if they let me he will be mine. Even if I cannot eventually ride him, I can give this rescue boy a good life. He deserves a good home.

Does anyone here know personally about CPL? I’ve been researching it and it seems that in dry, sunny Arizona it might recede.

I just need to know if you have personal experiences, or know something about it that I might not, or cannot find on the net.

Thank you!!!
Thanks for the site! No, I agree that horses in severe pain need to be put down. It is inhumane to keep a terminal horse alive just for the owner’s benefit. This gelding is in great shape…he just has a general distrust for humans. The CPL is not advanced at all, and he doesn’t see to notice that he has it.

I found this and thought it might help.

While what i find you are doing is nice thing, this is my beef with rescues.

That disease is horrible and painful. I see so many rescues that ‘rescue’ horses from situations that they need to actually be put down. Broken backs, severely defomed legs with arthritis setting in, chronic infections, diseases, etc. Then they try to resale them or give them away. Its the horse that suffers.

I know there are good rescues out there and ones that aren’t in it for the money, but when you have animals with horrid diseases, why make them linger?

While I applaud you for adopting and thinks its a great thing, it just burns me that rescues keep doing this at the animals sake.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you.
