There are numerous types of horse racing bettings which are included in the horse races. Horse race is a very popular sport nowadays. You can select a team of your favorite horses and bet on them, so as to earn some handsome cash prizes. The entire sport is full of thrill and excitement. Most of the people that visit the horse race fields enjoy the entire race to the fullest, by drinking, celebrating and cheering their horses.

Various types of the horse racing bettings are mentioned below. If you are a beginner, then this information would prove to be very useful for you. You can even use an online horse racing betting system like the F P systems, if you are new to the horse racing.

1. Win: the win is the first type of the horse betting. Betting with the win type is very simple. You have to choose a horse that is capable of winning the race. If the horse wins the race by landing up in the first position, then you would win the jackpot amount.

2. Place: In the Place type of horse race betting, you have to choose the horse that is capable of coming second in the horse race. If your chosen horse comes second or lands up first in the race, then you would win your bet.

3. Show: In the show type of horse race betting, you have to choose a horse that is capable of winning the third position in the race. If your horse wins the race by landing into first, second or third position, you would win your bet.

4. Across the Board: Across the Board is one of the most admired types of horse race bettings. In this type of horse race betting, you are allowed to choose a horse that can land into either the first, second or third position in the horse race. By selecting this option, you are actually playing three bets in one particular horse race. Therefore, you can win the bet whether your horse lands into first, second or third position.

5. Exacta: Exacta is a very difficult type of horse race betting. Here you have to quote an exact bet on the horses and even make an exact guess on their winning positions. Exacta is not preferred by most of the punters.

6. Quinella: In the Quinella type of horse race betting, you are allowed to bet on two horses. And if whichever one the two horses that you have chosen, comes first and other in the second position, you would win your bet.

7. Trifecta: here, you have to choose three horses and also guess their order to come in the first, second and third position. If your guess in correct, you win your bet.

Jo Thompson asked:

By nature the horse was intended to live in grassy fields with natural protection through trees and the landscape from the elements. The horse lived in herds and most herds were groups of mares with one stallion for protection. As technology advanced and we began to rely on the horse more and more, we began to change the way the horse lives. The horse was stabled and shod and moved away from the grassy fields to barns and stables in cities. This was a drastic change for the horse and he has had to overcome many of his natural instincts for this new way of life.

To compensate for changing the horse’s natural way of life we have to do everything that we can to make it easier and more comfortable on our horses. There are certain procedures that we must do to ensure that our horses remain healthy and live happy lives. Horses are all day grazers and we must remember this when it comes to our feeding schedules. Horses were intended to walk and run on hard ground, so this too must be remembered when we stable our horses and bed our stalls. Racehorses actually have more of a healthier life than many stabled horses. Their stalls are not heavily bedded and they have access to hay twenty-four hours a day. When it comes to stabling our horses we need to remember that they were intended for small meals, so multiple small meals per day is actually much better than one large meal. If the horse is not able to feel some concussion in his bones from the ground, then the bones will become brittle and can even break.

If you own a number of horses, it is important that you understand herd mentality. Herd mentality applies to solitude horses as well, because you are now a part of that horse’s herd. A herd of horses is similar to a group of children on the playground. When the horses are together they will run and play together. If one does something to make his friends mad, then they will ignore him and keep him away from the herd. This is similar to the child that makes his friends angry and they don’t want to have anything to do with him. They will play and ignore him. In order to get back into the herd, the horse has to show remorse and the alpha horse will allow him to come back to the herd. The same is true with the child. If the child apologizes and shows remorse, then his friends will let him come back and play.

The horse lives off very basic principles, but they know that they cannot live alone. They depend on the herd for protection. When you have only one horse, your horse depends on you for leadership and protection. To gain your horse’s trust then you must show that you are a worthy leader.

Paul Simms asked:

Oldenburg Horses

The Oldenburg horses name is derived from the horse’s origins; Oldenburg is a city within lower Saxony, Germany. Modern day Oldenburg horses are controlled by the “Association of breeders of the Oldenburg horse”.

Summary

Oldenburg horses are bred for performance and quality; they excel in dressage and showjumping. On the flat the Oldenburg has incredible animated rhythmical gaits, with a great deal of suspension, Oldenburg horses are also extremely  accurate over fences; they are bold and have a powerful jump with plenty of scope.

Characteristics

As a result of the Oldenburg’s open studbook, the substance and height of the individual horse will vary depending on the horse’s ancestry. Oldenburg’s are usually bay, brown, chestnut, grey, or black. You can find horses for sale with these characteristics on the Horsewizard website.

History and development

The Oldenburg warmblood registry came about in 1923.The Oldenburg’s history lies with the native horse of Oldenburg, the Alt-Oldenburg, meaning old Oldenburg. The Alt-Oldenburg was a general type of horse, a heavier warmblood horse used for agricultural purposes and carriage work. In the 1940s and 1950s horses we replaced by tractors and cars, so the horse became a luxury rather than a requirement so there became a need for a lighter type of riding horse.

The Alt-Oldenburg was refined by infusing Thoroughbred and Anglo-Norman blood. The infusion of the French blood lines proved to be the most successful.

Modern breeding practises such as artificial insemination have allowed stallions from much further afield to be included in the Oldenburg’s meticulous breeding programme to improve the breed; the infusion of various illustrious sport horse bloodlines has made the Oldenburg one of the words leading sport horses.

Hanoverian Horses

The Hanoverian is a continental warmblood horse, the Hanoverian originates from Germany, from the area known as lower Saxony, this area was the former kingdom of Hannover, and this is where the Hanoverian warmbloods name is derived from.

Summary

The Hanoverian warmblood is extremely distinguished; it is one of the oldest most established continental warmbloods, an extremely high achiever that excels in equestrian sport, such as dressage, eventing and show jumping. Hanoverian warmbloods are enormously popular horses and are found on all five continents, this is down to the fantastic attributes of the Hanoverian Warmblood horse.

Characteristics

The Hanoverian warmblood horse usually stands from 15.2 to 17.2 hands. They are usually bay, grey, chestnut, brown or black. Hanoverian warmblood horses are bred for performance, consequently the Hanoverian warmblood is a well built, strong athletic horse with fantastic paces and exceptional jumping form. The Horsewizard website is a good place to find these types of Horses for sale.

History

The Hanoverian stud book formally started in 1888, but breeding records date back to the early 1700s, when the Hanoverian warmblood was bred for coach and army work. The Hanoverian horse became one of the most sought horses in Europe. After the Second World War the Hanoverian warmblood horse was bred for performance, as there was high demand for quality riding horses and competition horses.

The Holstein warmblood horse name is derived from its place of origin, the province of Schleswig-Holstein.

Summary

The modern day Holstein horse is a top class all round horse that excels at dressage and show jumping. The Holstein is of international standard. Many of todays top showjumping and dresssage horses are Holsteins.

Characteristics

Registerd Holstein horses carry the Holstein brand which is depicted by an “H” in crowned shield.

Registered Holstein horses usually stand between 16 to 17 hands and can only be bay, chestnut, black, grey or brown. No other colours are permitted.

The Holstein horse height and build vary on the individual horses parentage, but overall the Holstein has a muscular strong body  and powerfull hind quarters which gives the Holstein excellent jumping ability. If you are looking for a Holstein horse for sale visit the Horsewizard website.

History

The Holstein is thought to be the oldest of all the continental horse breeds, their ancestry can be followed back to the 13th century.

The Holstein horses were used as war horses in the middle ages, the In the 16th and 17th century there was a need for coach horses, so the heavier war horse was refined using Neapolitan, Barbary and Spanish bloodlines, to develop a lighter type of horse, that was suitable for coach work. Later on in the 19th century there was a need for a more athletic faster coach horse consequently the Holstein was improved by adding blood from Yorkshire coach horses, which themselves were high in thoroughbred blood.

In the 1960s the Holstein breed was refined once again, using Thoroughbred blood from Britain and Ireland. The breeders were also aware of the success that the breeder of the Oldenburg had when they infused French blood, as a result of the Holstein breeders also introduced French blood in to the Holstein breed.

First Namesarah K asked:

i think its a brilliant idea! I know someone who has a pure black percheron with a really long mane and it looks like a $50,000 purebred friesian stud! but its really a percheron they rescued from slaughter. Couldnt someone just find a black draft horse to make it a friesian knock- off?
well i meant mostly physically looks since thats why most people like them. Yet a lot of draft horses do tend to be calm and friendly along with friesians.

April 12th, 2011

Lina Smith asked:

When your beloved horse has become too old or infirm to be able to do what you require of him you have to make some difficult decisions. Horse agistment can help.

If you can afford to retire him to a horse agistment facility that specializes or has expertise to deal with the older horse, then he or she surely is lucky.

Most of the horse agistment properties that cater for the older, retired horse are out in the country and it is important that the older horse is in a calm and tranquil space. Older retired horses will frequently be out in "all weathers" and in these circumstances the horse’s natural greasy coat should be allowed to develop. This will keep him warm in the cold weather. If a rug is used this can stop a horse’s coat from growing.

Regular veterinary and dental checks are important for the retired horse and most providers of horse agistment for the older horse will have these services and others available. The older horse will benefit from equine massage and this can sometimes be found as an extra service at the best horse agistment places.

The feet of the older horse actually grow very little and although shoeing is not usually necessary regular checks by the farrier should still be made. So again a specialist horse agistment farrier would be great kindness.

Calm and tranquil pasture is what an old-timer really needs. Regular daily (and preferably twice daily) checks should be made, to make sure he is well and not distressed. Another important point is that a horse needs company. Horses usually prefer to be in a group and unless your horse has been used to living alone, when he retires he would benefit from extra company. To be in a paddock with a few others animals, not necessarily horses. Cattle, sheep, goats or even a donkey will keep him company and improve his quality of life. Horse agistment is all about quality of horse life.

The quality of the pasture is important for the retired horse just as much as for a younger horse. Pasture needs to be maintained regularly. If weeds or pests are found in the pasture the necessary treatment must be administered. In addition when the pasture looses its nutritive value, additional feed must be given and when its cold a horse will require more heat creating food. Very old horses do sometimes loose weight and condition but close attention should be paid in case additional food is required.

Those horse agistment providers who can cope with retired horses will normally be happy to give veterinary treatments for those illnesses that can afflict the older horse for example, arthritis. However, you cannot expect a horse agistment provider to deal with severe illness or injury. With regard to worming this is a necessity for any horse including the retired horse and agistment providers would expect to do this as a matter of course.

In the end when your horse’s life has become a trial to him a good agistment provider will help you to make the ultimate decision.

The Internet lists various providers of agistment for the older or retired horse. Check them out and you will surely find one that suits you.
